I Have No Problems With Azerbaijan and the People of Azerbaijan: Aghazaryan
Recently, I have been constantly asked why Armenia does not sign a peace treaty with Georgia, Iran, or Turkey, but wants to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan. This was stated by MP Hovik Aghazaryan during his speech at the National Assembly.
“A logical question may arise here. Because we are at war with them. But who says we are at war with them? We have never been at war with Azerbaijan. The people of Artsakh stood up to defend their right to self-determination, and the authorities of Azerbaijan at that time wanted to drown all of this in blood, and our compatriots in Artsakh took up arms to protect their rights. Tens of thousands of citizens from Armenia went and stood by our compatriots,” he said.
Aghazaryan noted that he is the only current MP who has been a member of legitimate parliaments in modern Armenian history. According to him, the legitimate periods of Armenia are from 1990 to 1994 and from 2018 to the present day. Aghazaryan believes that they should not bear responsibility for the actions of other authorities.
“In 1994, when the ceasefire was signed, I thought that Armenia was acting as a mediator for the conflicting parties, but later Artsakh was removed from negotiations, and they took the laurels for themselves. As a public official, I am responsible for their actions. I have no problems with Azerbaijan and the people of Azerbaijan; the issue lies elsewhere. I fully agree with the policy that our government is implementing. I have never had discussions at this level in my modest life, thank you for the opportunity,” Aghazaryan concluded.
