What Awaits Parents Who Reject Their Child's Gender Transition in the USA

The SB 5599 bill, which allows the state to legally take children away from their parents if they do not consent to their child's gender-affirming surgery, has been approved by the Washington State House of Representatives, as announced by the state's legislative body on April 13.

All Democrats voted in favor of the bill, while all Republicans opposed it. The state Senate had passed the bill earlier in March. Thus, the legislative initiative will now head to the desk of Governor Jay Inslee. Once signed by the governor, the bill will become law.

Washington State Senator Democrat Marco Liias issued a statement following the bill's passage, saying, “Under current law, if a child ends up in a licensed shelter, that shelter must notify parents unless there is just cause.”
