According to confidential documents, nearly 110,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded
The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has accused the Russian Ministry of Defense of hiding "losses in Ukraine." According to the New York Times, this is stated in leaked U.S. intelligence documents available online.
According to the documents, the FSB claims that the official figures for casualties do not include personnel from the National Guard of Russia, the Wagner Group, and troops from Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. An excerpt from a document dated February 28 explains that the FSB attributed this discrepancy to the military's reluctance to report unfavorable news to leadership.
The publication asserts that the FSB has calculated that the actual number of Russians injured and killed in battles amounts to approximately 110,000. The Russian Ministry of Defense last reported on the casualties of its soldiers in Ukraine in September of last year, when Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated that about 6,000 Russian servicemen had been killed from the start of the war (February to September 2022).
