Salaries of 220 First Instance Judges in Armenia to Increase

The salaries of 220 first instance judges (criminal, civil, administrative, and bankruptcy courts) in Armenia will be increased. This information has been reported by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

The ministry has developed a proposal that envisions an increase in the salaries of these judges by 60 percent of their official salary scale, bringing them in line with the salaries of judges in the anti-corruption court.

“In recent years, the continuous increase in the number of cases in the first instance general jurisdiction and specialized courts—administrative and bankruptcy—has led to the overburdening of the mentioned judges. In this context, the necessity to revise the salaries of these judges has emerged,” the statement said.

It is also noted that both judges of the first instance general jurisdiction and specialized administrative and bankruptcy courts, as well as all judges of the anti-corruption courts, have the same nature and scope of authority and perform the same duties, among other things.

According to the ministry, guarantees of material and social independence are of key importance in the system of characteristics defining the legal status of judges.
