Stoltenberg Welcomes Turkey's Decision on Finland's NATO Membership

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has stated that he welcomes the Turkish Parliament's decision, which has approved Finland's application to join the alliance.

“I welcome the Turkish Parliament's vote to finalize the ratification of Finland's membership agreement,” Stoltenberg wrote on Twitter. “This will make the entire NATO family stronger and more secure,” he added.

It was previously reported that the Turkish Parliament has approved Finland's bid to join NATO. Thus, all member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance have ratified Helsinki's application. After the completion of the remaining formalities, Finland will officially become a member of NATO.

According to the NATO membership procedure, member countries will now sign the protocols of the North Atlantic Treaty regarding Finland's accession and will inform the U.S. – the custodian of the treaty. Subsequently, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will offer Finland to join the North Atlantic Treaty. Once the documents regarding the country's NATO membership are transferred to the U.S. State Department, Finland will officially become a member of the alliance.
