Edgar Ghazaryan is the Candidate for the Human Rights Defender from the Opposition Factions of the National Assembly
The opposition factions of the National Assembly, "Honorary Title" and "Armenia," have nominated political figure Edgar Ghazaryan as their candidate for the Human Rights Defender. The information is provided by the chairperson of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs, nonpartisan Taguhi Tovmasyan.
"Thus, at this moment, the Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs of the National Assembly has officially received the relevant documents regarding the nomination of a single candidate, exclusively concerning Edgar Ghazaryan. Meanwhile, political statements regarding Anahit Manasyan have not yet transformed into any legal action, and the ruling 'Civil Contract' faction has not presented any candidate to the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs up to this point," she wrote on her Facebook page.
On March 21, Hayk Konjoryan, the leader of the 'Civil Contract' faction, announced that the faction has nominated Deputy Prosecutor General Anahit Manasyan as a candidate for the position of Human Rights Defender.
