‘In Key Issues, Armenia and Azerbaijan’s Positions Are Quite Far Apart’ – Mirzoyan

In the National Assembly, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan presented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' activity report for 2022, noting that Armenia and Azerbaijan have not yet reached an agreement on key issues.

He mentioned that the Azerbaijani side has submitted four documents regarding the peace treaty, while the Armenian side has presented three. The last document was received by Armenia from Azerbaijan, but a response has not yet been formulated.

“We have managed to find numerous not ideal, but mutually acceptable formulations on various issues. There have been exchanges of ideas, and some compromise thoughts have been formulated. Unfortunately, this pertains to non-essential, key issues. All those questions of primary importance are still in the discussion phase,” said Mirzoyan.

He emphasized that he can say without hesitation that the positions of Armenia and Azerbaijan on key issues are quite far apart.

Regarding the country playing a mediating role in the negotiations, Mirzoyan noted that, in essence, there is no mediator. The negotiations are considered to be bilateral.
