Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Summons Azerbaijani Ambassador for Ignoring Court Decision on Lachin Corridor

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Azerbaijani ambassador, informing him of the necessity to comply with the International Court of Justice's ruling to open the Lachin Corridor.

This was reported by the Federation of Armenian Organizations in the Netherlands (FAON). It is noted that 13 parliamentary factions in the Netherlands have submitted written questions to Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra regarding the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, following the International Court of Justice's decision on February 22.

In his responses, Hoekstra concurred with the parliamentarians, stating that Azerbaijan is not complying with the court's decision, which requires Azerbaijan to use all available means to ensure the unhindered movement of people, vehicles, and cargo through the Lachin Corridor in both directions.

In a letter to the parliament, the foreign minister emphasized that the international court's decisions are legally binding, thus the Netherlands has publicly called on the Azerbaijani authorities to comply with the ruling.

According to the message, the head of the Dutch Foreign Ministry has repeatedly raised concerns regarding the humanitarian situation created in Nagorno-Karabakh due to the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, including in bilateral negotiations with Azerbaijani authorities and during a recent meeting between the Dutch Prime Minister and the President of Azerbaijan.

FAON notes that the Dutch Foreign Minister has also conveyed these concerns during several discussions with his Azerbaijani counterpart, and these worries have been expressed at various international conferences and through EU statements.

Foreign Minister Hoekstra stated that the court's ruling must be fully implemented, meaning that Azerbaijan should ensure the free movement of people, vehicles, and cargo through the Lachin Corridor in both directions.
