Pardon Granted to Over 20,000 Protesters in Iran

The President of Iran's Supreme Court, Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, has announced that around 82,000 individuals arrested for various offenses have received pardons in the republic, according to IRNA. He indicated that this number could increase and affect participants of last year’s protests.

“Today, 82,000 people have received pardons, and this number may rise. About 22,000 individuals linked to the protests have been pardoned. This pertains to those who have already been sentenced, as well as those still waiting for a verdict,” Mohseni-Ejei stated.

As the head of Iran’s judicial system noted, in addition to the protesters, approximately 60,000 other individuals have also received pardons, with 25,000 being released from prison. He also added that those convicted or accused of heinous crimes and theft have not benefited from this amnesty.

The pardons are being granted in honor of the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution and the month of Rajab.
