Upper Lars Road Closed for Some Vehicles

The road leading to the Georgian-Russian border is closed for vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers. This information was reported by Sputnik Georgia.

Restrictions have been imposed on the Gudauri-Kobi section due to heavy snow and black ice. Other types of vehicles can travel freely, according to the statement.

Traffic is operating around the clock on the Mleta-Gudauri and Gudauri-Kobi sections. Vehicles can only pass through the Gudauri-Kobi section via tunnels that protect against snowdrifts.

It is important to note that the Military Road is the only land route connecting Armenia to Russia. It is regularly closed due to adverse weather conditions.

Georgia is constructing a road bypassing the most dangerous section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars highway (Gudauri-Kobi). This includes a nine-kilometer tunnel.
