South Korea to Assist Turkey in Building Shelters After Earthquakes

South Korea will help Turkey construct shelters for survivors of the devastating earthquakes. This was reported by Yonhap news agency.

The decision was made during an inter-agency meeting on ways to provide assistance to Turkey. South Korea’s Foreign Minister Park Jin announced that authorities will send a third contingent of humanitarian aid and provide temporary shelters for Turks left homeless on the streets.

“This is the first time our government has provided assistance, from search and rescue operations to disaster relief,” emphasized the head of South Korea’s diplomatic agency.

In total, Seoul will send 500 cargo containers to be used as temporary shelters. On February 6, 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes struck southeastern Turkey, also affecting Syria. Turkish authorities have described the earthquakes as a “disaster of the century.”
