Pashinyan Reveals the Purpose of Providing Assistance to Turkey

The humanitarian dialogue with Turkey can contribute to the improvement of political dialogue, stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference.

“If that step has political results, it will be good. But we have acted solely on humanitarian grounds and are ready to provide any assistance to the best of our abilities, as millions of people have suffered in our neighborhood,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that before the earthquake, Armenia and Turkey had political dialogue through special representatives, and now there is an opportunity to pursue concrete political solutions.

“Armenia is ready to move forward and establish diplomatic relations with Turkey. The opening of the Armenian-Turkish border would be a positive step not only in the regional context but also in the international context,” he stated.

It is worth mentioning that on February 6 at 05:17, an earthquake occurred in Turkey's Kahramanmaraş Province, causing destruction in several cities. Two strong aftershocks were recorded at 14:24 and 14:36 local time. The intensity of the underground tremor in the epicentral area reached 10-11 points. The earthquake also resulted in casualties and destruction in Syria. The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria is approaching 50,000.
