Decline of International Attention on the South Caucasus Poses Risks, Says Pashinyan
The decline of international attention towards the South Caucasus poses security risks. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference.
“The international community’s attention, for understandable reasons, is focused on Ukraine. Meanwhile, new risks may arise for the South Caucasus, and this should be taken into account,” the Prime Minister added in his speech.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also mentioned that Armenia is implementing democratic reforms and strengthening the rule of law in the country, anticipating that these measures will contribute to enhanced stability.
It is noteworthy that Pashinyan, along with his wife Anna Hakobyan, is on a working visit to Germany from February 16-19. In Munich, he held an informal meeting with European Council President Charles Michel and discussed crime-fighting issues with Europol Executive Director Catherine De Bolle.
During the conference, Pashinyan also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani and French President Emmanuel Macron. Moreover, he engaged with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid. He discussed the importance of the European Union’s civilian mission in Armenia with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
Furthermore, Pashinyan has also met with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, Louis Bono. In addition to bilateral meetings, a trilateral meeting was held between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
