Turkey Should Not Remain Indifferent: Garo Paylan's Statement
Member of the Turkish Parliament Garo Paylan wrote on his Facebook page: “The Lachin corridor, which is the only communication route connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia, has been kept closed for more than two weeks by a group of Azerbaijanis who consider themselves ‘environmentalists’ and Azerbaijani security officials. As a result of the closure of the Lachin corridor, the crisis of ensuring basic necessities such as food and medicine in Nagorno-Karabakh is increasingly escalating. The 120,000 Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh is under blockade. This blockade, which is turning into a humanitarian crisis, must be brought to an end as soon as possible.
Turkey should not remain indifferent to the growing humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. Political forces must act without delay. I call on President Erdoğan to take responsibility for ending the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh. Establishing peace in the Caucasus is in Turkey's interest. If we all take responsibility for ending the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, we can return to a positive agenda in both the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process and the Armenia-Turkey normalization process.”
