Lavrov and Bayramov Discuss the Situation in the Lachin Corridor
The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia have held a telephone conversation, expressing regret over Yerevan's decision to withdraw from the meeting of foreign ministers scheduled for tomorrow in Moscow.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov and Jeyhun Bayramov discussed the situation in the area of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers, which has escalated due to the blockade of the Lachin corridor and disagreements surrounding the exploitation of mineral resources in the region.
The Russian foreign policy agency reported that Lavrov emphasized the necessity of ensuring unhindered communication through the Lachin corridor between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, in strict compliance with the trilateral agreements.
Earlier today, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Armenian side had requested to postpone the meeting of foreign ministers of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan scheduled for December 23 in Moscow, stressing that the current priority for Armenia's Foreign Minister is to address the issues arising from the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the 11-day closure of the Lachin corridor.
