Putin May Become Subject to Investigation by The Hague Court: Bushman

Targeted Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure could lead to an investigation against Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was stated by Germany's Minister of Justice, Marco Buschmann.

Thus, the Kremlin leader could become the subject of an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague regarding crimes against humanity, Buschmann explained. “And this is not a hypothetical case,” emphasized the head of Germany's Ministry of Justice.

If residents are left without heating and electricity in conditions of 30 degrees below zero due to the targeted destruction of civilian infrastructure, it could be regarded as a crime against humanity, said Buschmann. According to him, direct signs of Putin's responsibility could be found in the televised addresses of the Russian president, in which the Kremlin leader stated that such strikes are a deliberate tactic.

At the same time, the Chief Prosecutor of the German Supreme Court cannot initiate an investigation against the Russian president, the head of Germany's Ministry of Justice added. Putin is the head of state and thus enjoys immunity, explained Buschmann.
