Erdogan Plans to Make Turkey a Global Gas Pricing Hub
Turkey plans to become a global gas pricing hub in the near future. This was announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a ceremony for the commissioning of new capacities at the Silivri underground gas storage facility in Istanbul.
“We have been negotiating with Putin regarding the creation of a gas hub in Turkish territory. Thrace will become an energy center. Our goal is to make Turkey a global gas pricing hub in the short term,” he said.
It is worth reminding that in October, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to Erdogan the creation of a gas hub for gas supplies to Europe. The Turkish leader told reporters that an international gas hub would be established in Turkey as soon as possible. According to him, Thrace, located in the European part of the country, would be the most suitable place for the hub.
