India's Defense Exports Reach Record Numbers
India's defense exports for the fiscal year 2021-2022 (which ended on March 31) have reached a record 140 billion rupees (approximately $1.7 billion), reports the Mint newspaper, citing data from the Ministry of Defense.
According to the data, eight years ago this figure was only 9 billion rupees ($110.8 million), but since 2014, there has been a steady increase in defense exports. Following this trend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government came to power and announced the "Self-Reliant India" initiative aimed at the development of indigenous production of modern weaponry.
The TASS news agency has reported that the country plans to increase its defense exports to over $3 billion by 2025. India is ready to export a variety of missile systems, light aircraft and helicopters, warships and patrol boats, artillery systems, tanks, radars, electronic warfare systems, and other weapon systems produced domestically.
