Germany to Install Missile Defense Shield to Protect the Country, Scholz
Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz hopes to install a missile defense shield within the next five years, he stated in an interview with Funke Media Group and the French newspaper Ouest-France.
"Right now, the government is negotiating with various system manufacturers to prepare for specific solutions," he noted.
Scholz also confirmed his intention to increase Germany's defense spending to meet NATO's goal of 2% of GDP, including expanding air defense through so-called 'Sky Shield' in collaboration with other NATO countries.
Germany and more than ten partners in NATO are striving to jointly procure air defense systems that will protect allied territories from missiles. The options being discussed include the Israeli Arrow 3 system, the American Patriot systems, and the German IRIS-T equipment.
