Sayat Shirinyan Resigns from Parliamentary Mandate
Member of the 'Renaissance Armenia' party Sayat Shirinyan has announced his resignation from his parliamentary mandate.
Shirinyan specifically stated:
Dear compatriots,
Today, I have submitted my application to the Central Electoral Commission regarding not taking the parliamentary mandate. The position has never been an end in itself for me, and even more so, the mandate of the country's representative body cannot be a self-serving goal.
I apologize to all my compatriots who expected to see me in the National Assembly, while at the same time, I kindly ask for respect towards my personal decision. I have not changed my convictions or approaches, which are to rid ourselves of unpatriotic authorities at all costs.
To prevent any unnecessary speculation, I would like to state that I have been and will continue to be a teammate of President Kocharian. I assure you that now and always, I will stand among the leaders of the liberation struggle.
