Minsk Group Activities Are Currently in Crisis, Says Aghajanian
The activities of the OSCE Minsk Group are currently in crisis. This was stated today, December 6, during a press conference by members of the Armenian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in the National Assembly by the chairman of the Foreign Relations Permanent Commission and member of the ruling Civil Contract faction, Eduard Aghajanian.
“The Minsk Group format is facing challenges for objective reasons, at least since the start of the war in Ukraine. These three countries are having a hard time sitting around the same table, let alone discussing issues in a substantive, political, and constructive environment. The Minsk Group's activities are currently in crisis, especially considering the situation of its three member countries,” Aghajanian said.
He noted that the Russian delegation did not participate in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly at all, which is further evidence of this crisis. “Therefore, the OSCE, from this perspective, will not be the most objective to assess the capabilities of the Minsk Group,” Aghajanian added.
It is noteworthy that the OSCE Minsk Group was established to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The decision to create the group was made by the Council of Ministers of OSCE member states on March 24, 1992. The Minsk Group includes Belarus, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Finland, and Turkey, along with Armenia and Azerbaijan. In 1997, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship (Russia, France, the USA) was established.
