Finance Minister Arrested in Nakhchivan

Details have emerged regarding the arrest of the Finance Minister in Nakhchivan. Rafael Aliyev was detained by the State Security Service during operations conducted at the Nakhchivan customs committee, as part of a criminal case initiated under Article 179.4 of the Criminal Code (embezzlement or misappropriation causing particularly large damages).

Also arrested in connection with the case was Mansur Askerov, head of the customs tariffs and payments regulation department of the committee. Rafael Aliyev held the same position until August 2020.

It is noted that Aliyev was appointed Finance Minister by the decree of Vasil Talibov, President of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, on August 19, 2020. Following that, Mansur Askerov was appointed as head of the customs tariffs and payments regulation department of the Nakhchivan customs committee.
