VIDEO: Alen Simonyan on Talks of Exiting CSTO
The CSTO is a military-political alliance, and there can be political expectations without anticipating military assistance. The political assessment has not been sufficient, which is why a decision was made not to sign the CSTO Collective Security Council’s declaration. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan during a conversation with reporters.
When asked if this means that the expectations from the CSTO were not justified, Alen Simonyan replied that if they had been justified, the documents would have been signed.
Regarding the issue of whether or not to remain in the CSTO is on the agenda, Alen Simonyan responded: “We have never made such a statement; we have said that it is the CSTO that is leaving the region, and we are concerned about that. Our partners should be asked whether the CSTO has decided to leave the South Caucasus area or not. If it has left, at least that should be publicly acknowledged. Nevertheless, we are not just waiting for the actions of that organization; we are independently taking steps to ensure the security of our borders.”
