Sweden to Assist Turkey in Fight Against Terrorism
Sweden shares Turkey's concerns regarding the fight against terrorism and intends to support Turkey in this matter. The statement was made by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson following talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara.
“Sweden wants to help Turkey in the fight against terrorism. We recognize the responsibility that NATO membership places on us,” Kristersson stated.
He had previously declared that Swedish authorities would not cooperate with organizations linked to the PKK, which is banned in Turkey.
Kristersson also assured Turkey that his country would fully comply with the conditions outlined in the Madrid memorandum for NATO membership. “Sweden will fully meet all obligations it has undertaken concerning the fight against terrorism towards Turkey,” emphasized Kristersson.
