Turkish Newspaper Discusses Armenian-Turkish Relations and Meeting of Special Representatives

The Turkish newspaper "Sabah" has published an article regarding the Armenian-Turkish normalization process, referencing its diplomatic sources.

"At this moment, as the normalization process continues to proceed in a positive direction, the question of opening the Armenian-Turkish borders is pointed out in relation to the signing of a final peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia," the article states.

According to diplomatic sources from the Turkish newspaper, regional processes should be viewed as a single entity. In the near future, a professional commission will be formed to complement the decisions made by special representatives Serdar Kılıç and Ruben Rubinyan on July 1.

The Turkish source claims that the next meeting of the special representatives is planned to take place in Turkey. The initiation of trade across the land border is considered the most significant step between the two countries.

The mentioned source indicates that before the closure of the Armenian-Turkish border in 1993, 40,000 tons of goods and 140,000 people crossed the border, and if the border is reopened, that number is expected to increase at least tenfold today.

"Sabah" notes that if a decision is made to open the Akyaka (Ahurik on the Armenian side) border checkpoint, it would be possible to bring it into a working-ready state within one month.
