Russian Actions Can Be Criticized, But It Is Unfair Not to Acknowledge the Efforts, Says Kopirkin
The withdrawal of troops could be the only reliable basis for resolving the existing issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by Sergey Kopirkin, the Russian Ambassador to Armenia, during a meeting with journalists in the Sotk community of the Gegharkunik region.
He noted that military confrontations cannot lead to a resolution of the existing problems. “We proceed from the idea that only political and diplomatic efforts can bring about a solution,” said Kopirkin.
“Russia is doing everything in its power to ensure that the political resolution process initiated by the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, continues despite all the problems and contradictions. We continue to work in this direction, supporting both sides in reaching a common approach. It is not easy, it requires great efforts, but we have done this and intend to continue doing so in the future. Of course, Russian actions can be criticized, but it is unfair not to acknowledge that Russia is making enormous efforts,” stated the ambassador.
Addressing the issue of arms supply to Armenia from Russia, Kopirkin emphasized that he is not ready to comment on the topic due to its sensitivity. “This should be done by professionals, but it is an area that is part of our allied relations,” said the ambassador.
