How Much Will the Queen's Death Cost the British Economy
Several months ago, when news circulated again about the deteriorating health of Elizabeth II, economists calculated the potential cost of the Queen's death to Great Britain. This was noted by Facebook user Hasmik Harutyunyan.
Aside from the immense moral damage that the British people will experience due to the Queen being a symbol of motherhood, safety, and security, the British economy will suffer significantly. According to British experts, the economy could face losses ranging from £1.5 billion to £6 billion. This estimate does not even take into account burial expenses.
This enormous financial loss is primarily due to the fact that during the 12 days of mourning, from the moment of death until the day of burial, business and public life across the entire kingdom will come to a halt. Banks will temporarily close, the stock market will shut down, and all entertainment broadcasts on television will be suspended indefinitely. Similarly, theaters and concert halls will also halt entertainment, comedy shows, concerts, and other performances for a period of time, meaning the entertainment sector will incur massive financial losses.
The day of the Queen's funeral will be declared a public holiday, allowing everyone to pay their last respects. The monarch's portrait on all banknotes and coins will be urgently replaced. According to statistics, approximately 3 billion people are expected to tune in to the Queen's funeral ceremony. Following the established protocol, Buckingham Palace will order 2 million roses to decorate the hall for the funeral.
