Why the Criminal Case Against the Mayor of Masis' Brother for Promoting Prostitution Was Closed
The Mayor of Masis, Davit Hambardzumyan, recently announced through his Facebook page that the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan has decided to terminate the criminal prosecution against his brother, Gor Hambardzumyan, and close the case. He also stated that his brother has been acquitted and that false and defamatory news has been spread about them.
According to Article 262, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, the Prosecutor General's Office clarified to Tert.am regarding the charges of promoting prostitution that the court based its decision on the fact that under the new Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, which came into force on July 1, 2022, the scope of actions forming the objective side of the crime of promoting prostitution has been changed.
As a result, the actions attributed to the individuals have been decriminalized.
