Who is Trying to Hinder the Nuclear Deal Between Iran and the West?
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid addressed the nuclear agreement being formed between Iran and Western powers at the beginning of the government meeting this morning, as reported by Israeli media.
Lapid announced that the head of the Mossad, David Barnea, would be traveling to Washington tomorrow for meetings aimed at preventing the signing of the nuclear agreement.
According to Lapid, he spoke with U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday and informed him that Israel is opposed to the nuclear agreement. Biden, in turn, expressed that he is "deeply committed to the security of the State of Israel."
Earlier, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani stated that Tehran had sent a constructive response to Washington regarding the U.S. proposal to restore the nuclear deal.
On August 15, Iran responded to European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell regarding the proposed draft for restoring the Iranian nuclear deal and expressed its views on outstanding issues in the negotiations. The EU described Iran's response as constructive and stated that they would consult with the U.S. regarding further steps.
The Iranian side received the U.S. response on August 24.
Under the nuclear pact, Tehran has limited its uranium enrichment program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.
In 2018, former U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal, calling it too lenient towards Iran.
