Anna Mkrtchyan Clarifies Links Between Surmalu Tragedy and SIL Group

Following the explosion at the Surmalu shopping center, various opinions have circulated on social media suggesting that companies potentially interested in the shopping center's premises may have connections to the explosion. Among these companies, the name SIL Group has also been mentioned.

In this regard, Anna Mkrtchyan, speaking on behalf of SIL Group, provided clarification. She stated that she finds it unacceptable to attempt to gain political dividends in such a situation and does not see the need to respond to or comment on those spreading such news.

“Let the law enforcement agencies determine the real cause of the explosion as well as the motivations behind those spreading false information. I express my condolences to the relatives of the victims,” Mkrtchyan mentioned in her post.

It is noted that on August 14, around 13:23, an explosion occurred at the Surmalu shopping center. A total of 185 rescue service personnel are involved in fire extinguishing and search operations, with twenty water carriers, twelve trucks, five tractors, three elevated cranes, and seven additional units of equipment deployed by the Yerevan Municipality. Search and rescue teams from Shirak and Tavush cities have also been dispatched to the scene.
