Naira Zohrabyan on the New Chief of the General Staff
Former MP Naira Zohrabyan's post. “The new Chief of the General Staff, Edward Edisonovich, considered Nikol one year ago as an inadequate figure leading the country to disaster. In February a year ago, 44 'heroic' generals and nearly the entire military command demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. They even released a daring text that was read several times amidst applause at the rally of those ‘saving the homeland’, stating: 'The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the government are no longer capable of making adequate decisions in this critical and fateful situation for the Armenian people. The ineffective governance of the current authorities and serious mistakes in foreign policy have brought the country to the brink of ruin. In light of the current situation, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia demand the resignation of the Prime Minister and the government, while warning against using force against the people, whose children were killed defending the Homeland and Artsakh.' This is an excerpt from the statement of the 'heroic' generals, most of whom gave a round of applause to Nikol a few days later at the General Staff meeting. No, I am not surprised at all. What is happening fits perfectly within the rules of the current political striptease. Just to inform you, one of the generals who considered Nikol Pashinyan incapable of making adequate decisions and leading the country to disaster, Edward Edison Asryan, was appointed yesterday as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.”
