Number of Applications for Armenian Citizenship Increases by 200%: Police
In the first half of 2022, a sharp increase in the number of applications for Armenian citizenship has been observed. If in January-June 2021 the number of applications was 3,448, during the same period in 2022 it soared to 9,917. This information has been reported by the press service of the Police.
Studies indicate that the over 200% increase in applications during this period is primarily attributed to ethnic Armenians living in the Russian Federation seeking Armenian citizenship and passports, which, in turn, has led to significant queues at the Passport and Visa Department.
Despite the Passport and Visa Department's citizenship division operating in an extremely overloaded mode, the department ensures service for all applicants and processes cases within the legally established timelines. It should also be noted that starting from June 25, 2022, applications for citizenship will be reviewed within 90 working days, replacing the previously set six-month timeline.
