Azerbaijan’s Bayramov Accuses Armenia of Delaying the Opening of the ‘Zangezur Corridor’ for Various Reasons
Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in response to questions from Anadolu, stated that official Baku has declared at the highest level its support for the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia. This information was reported by Tert.am.
According to him, Azerbaijan has positively responded to the appointment of special representatives by Turkey and Armenia aimed at normalizing relations, as well as their participation in three meetings. Bayramov called these actions a "positive signal sent by Turkey and Azerbaijan to Armenia."
At the same time, according to Bayramov, after the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, Azerbaijan has "put aside the wounds of the past," declaring its readiness for "peace" and normalization of relations with Armenia.
"Armenia has ignored Azerbaijan's 'calls for peace' for a year. Nevertheless, Baku published the principles on which a future peace agreement can be based at the beginning of this year," stated Bayramov.
He emphasized that Baku's peace agenda has received a positive response from the international community, including at the level of the European Union. He reminded that under the EU's initiative, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia have held two face-to-face meetings in the past two months, noting that the agenda of the negotiations includes, among other issues, the unblocking of transport routes in the region, as well as the delimitation and demarcation of borders between the two countries.
Bayramov then noted that some positive signals have started to come from Armenia regarding the normalization of relations. "We perceive these signals as positive steps. The continuity of movement in this direction is in the interests not only of Azerbaijan and Armenia but also of the entire region. The normalization of relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey is most necessary for Armenia itself... Official Yerevan should properly assess the situation and draw the right conclusions," said Bayramov.
As for the negotiations regarding the so-called opening of the ‘Zangezur Corridor’ (quotes by Tert.am), Bayramov mentioned that there are still no concrete results on this issue. Armenia is delaying this process for various reasons, declared the Azerbaijani minister.
"Turkey and Azerbaijan state clearly: 'We have no problems with Yerevan. Our countries advocate for normal 'friendly' (quotes by Tert.am) relations with Armenia. If Yerevan takes appropriate steps, respects the norms of international law, and considers the realities of the region, good results will be possible," he said.
