Ukrainian Refugees Being Evicted from Hotels in Spain: El Pais
Ukrainian refugees are being evicted from hotels in Spain ahead of the tourist season. According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, many Ukrainian resettlers do not want to change their location, as their families and children have already started living in the country. However, many hotel rooms have been booked by tourists for the summer, prior to the refugees' accommodation.
For Ukrainians renting accommodations from private landlords, the situation is not easy, as prices have surged by tens of percent. The Spanish Red Cross foundation pays for the housing of Ukrainian refugees, but the organization can no longer sponsor residents in tourist areas at summer rates.
“Everyone wants to live by the sea or next to Barcelona and Madrid, but they must understand that they are under the protection of the Red Cross, and they need to go where they are directed,” reported Anastasia Chornokhuz, a representative of the Ukrainian Association in Spain.
