VIDEO: Armenian Soldier Provided Combat Service Photos to Enemy for $200 - NSS

The National Security Service of Armenia's military counterintelligence department has revealed that an Armenian citizen, identified as D. G., who was serving as a soldier, had access to sensitive information regarding military positions along the border under the protection of military unit N. This included coordinates, armament details, the number of soldiers on duty, and other information related to combat duty.

In January 2022, under these circumstances, D. G. connected with a representative of a foreign intelligence service through the social network Facebook and was recruited by him. During the period from January to March 2022, he collected and transmitted state and service secrets regarding the location of their unit's combat positions, the number of personnel on combat duty, and other related details to representatives of foreign intelligence services via the WhatsApp application on his mobile phone and the Messenger application on Facebook, thus committing treason against the state in a manner detrimental to the territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia. In return, he received a payment of $200 sent via bank transfer by the foreign state's intelligence services.

Following the incident of state treason, a criminal case was initiated in the investigative department of the NSS, and D. G. was arrested. He provided a confession, after which sufficient evidence was collected to bring him as a defendant in the case, and pretrial detention was applied as a measure of restraint.

The National Security Service of Armenia assures that it will continue its active and vigilant operations in the field of intelligence and counter-intelligence, emphasizing that the detection and prevention of such cases is a priority and a core aspect of its activities. At the same time, it warns that appropriate measures will be taken to hold the guilty parties criminally accountable to the full extent of the law.
