Ter-Petrosyan's Firm Response to the Statement Signed by 40 Intellectuals

The first President of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, has publicly shared an article titled "The Miserable Manifesto." According to Aravot news, Ter-Petrosyan addressed the statement entitled "The Fate of the Republic of Artsakh is a National Responsibility," which was signed by Armenian intellectuals.

The article published by the former president is as follows:

“Three days ago, I read the statement titled 'The Fate of the Republic of Artsakh is a National Responsibility,' signed by more than forty diplomats, academics, historians, and cultural figures (mediamax.am, 25.04.2022). My first thought was to respond immediately to that statement; however, after some reflection, I decided to hold off, to see what kind of reactions it would receive from others. There were no responses, apart from the names of more than forty new people who joined the statement. Nevertheless, in the end, I decided to abandon the idea of addressing the statement, deeming it a pointless endeavor, as it contains everything except for political thought.

To avoid falling into pessimism, I had no choice but, as per my habit, to immerse myself in Edgar Hovhannisyan's "My Erebuni Turned into Yerevan," Robert Amirkhanyan's "My Dreamland Motherland," Ruben Hakobyan's "My Little Boat," and Edgar Elbakyan's "Oh Moon, Moon" – works of soulful poetry. I assure you, these songs contain far deeper and more lasting treasures of national spirit than the dazzling flashes of thought of the prominent individuals who signed the statement in question.”

It is worth reminding that on April 24, a statement titled "The Fate of the Republic of Artsakh is a National Responsibility" was circulated, initiated and co-signed by former high-ranking officials, political and cultural figures.
