“This has been and remains the only use of nuclear weapons” - Zakharova

The United States has undertaken all measures to erase the memory of the atomic bombings carried out by the U.S. on Japan in 1945 from the minds of the Japanese population. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in a broadcast on Sputnik Radio, as reported by TASS.

“The U.S. has done everything to wipe from the memories of the Japanese the subject of the atomic strikes against their country. In textbooks and museums that have been opened and operate in Japan, there is no mention of the fact that it was Washington that made the decision to bomb them and implemented it. Even the memorial events held in Japan in connection with the anniversaries of the bombings are dedicated to the strikes and victims, but there is no condemnation or even mention of who made the decision and carried it out,” Zakharova noted.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry representative, the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki suggested organizing visits for high-ranking U.S. representatives to the regions that were affected by the American nuclear strikes.

“If this action is carried out in some way, it will allow us to restore the historical memory of those times, which is important: not to erase it and not to reframe it, but to return to the roots and remind the descendants of those who made the decision about the atomic strike, which, at that time, was strategically insignificant for ending World War II but represented an act of punishment and retribution against peaceful civilians,” the diplomat added.

She also reminded that this has been and continues to be the only case of nuclear weapon usage that was not a test, but targeted against a state and its peaceful population.
