‘It Could Be a Heavy Blow to Our Country and People’: Georgia Makes Statement
Tbilisi will not join the sanctions imposed against Russia. This was announced today by the chairman of Georgia's ruling ‘Georgian Dream’ party, Irakli Kobakhidze.
“We will not join these sanctions because our priority is to protect the interests of the Georgian state and the Georgian people. Joining the sanctions against Russia could be a heavy blow to our country and people,” he stated.
Kobakhidze explained that the demand to join the sanctions against Russia is presented by the United National Movement, which unites supporters of Saakashvili. “The war party, in the form of the United National Movement, is not only demanding to join the sanctions imposed against Russia but also calls for Georgia to participate in military operations,” he noted.
