US Officials Predict Kyiv's 'Fall' Date
Three US officials have told Newsweek that they expect Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, to be captured by approaching Russian forces within the coming days, and shortly thereafter, the country's resistance will be neutralized, reports Gazeta.
A former high-ranking US intelligence officer with extensive experience working with Russia has also expressed a similar opinion. He stated, “When aviation ceases, and artillery comes to an end, and the real ground war begins, I believe Kyiv will collapse in just a few days. Soldiers may hold out a bit longer, but not for long.”
Sources close to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have agreed with the US assessment that Kyiv could be besieged in “within 96 hours.” However, they emphasize that there is no belief in Ukraine that Zelensky’s government will collapse. When asked if the government believes it can break the potential Russian siege, the source replied that “it is still too early” to draw any conclusions.
