4 Million Dollar Black Diamond Sold for Cryptocurrency
It is believed that black diamonds originated on Earth between 2.6 and 3.2 billion years ago, long before the appearance of dinosaurs.
At Sotheby’s, the Enigma black diamond was sold for $4.3 million. Weighing 555.55 carats, the purchase was completed using cryptocurrency, according to BBC News.
The identity of the auction winner has not been disclosed. However, it is known that the diamond's buyer paid with cryptocurrency. Later, prominent Bitcoin enthusiast and businessman Richard Heart claimed that he is the one who bought the Enigma.
Before this sale, the diamond had been in a private collection for about 20 years and had never been publicly displayed. The weight of the gem is comparable to that of a banana. Additionally, it belongs to the rare type known as 'carbonado.'
The uniqueness of the diamond lies in its inclusion of osbornite mineral, which is found almost exclusively in meteorites. Therefore, it is not excluded that it may have a cosmic origin.
