Armenian Foreign Ministry Responds to Bayramov's Statement
The Armenian Foreign Ministry has responded to the statement made by Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, asserting that Yerevan's preconditions regarding the start of demarcation are unacceptable for Baku.
In response to an inquiry from Armenpress, the Ministry's spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan emphasized that the Armenian side has no preconditions regarding demarcation; the matter is about agreements.
Question: Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, responding to the Republic of Armenia's proposals related to border delineation and demarcation processes, stated that Baku finds Yerevan’s preconditions unacceptable for starting demarcation. How do you comment on this statement?
Answer: I believe there is a certain misunderstanding regarding this issue. The Armenian side does not have any preconditions regarding demarcation. It is about agreements. In the trilateral statement adopted on November 26 in Sochi by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the Presidents of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan, it is mentioned that the parties have agreed to "take steps to enhance the level of security and stability at the Azerbaijan-Armenia border and to proceed with the formation of a bilateral commission for demarcation and delimitation." This agreement was reaffirmed, and an agreement to start the process of troop withdrawal was reached during the trilateral meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, mediated by the President of the European Council, held in Brussels on December 14.
Thus, the proposals from the Armenian side are not preconditions but rather are aimed at implementing the agreements reached. The Republic of Armenia believes that the demarcation process should begin as soon as possible, in accordance with the aforementioned agreements.
