Other Variants May Emerge Besides Omicron, Says WHO
David Nabarro, a special representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) for COVID-19 response, has stated that the next three months will be challenging due to the outbreak of the Omicron variant, but its end is near. This was reported by Sky News.
Nabarro noted that besides Omicron, other variants may also emerge as the virus continues to evolve. He expressed concern that while health services in Western Europe manage to cope with the difficulties, healthcare facilities in other parts of the world are already overwhelmed.
No country has the capacity to impose serious restrictions, especially in poorer nations, but challenges will persist only for the next three months, Nabarro emphasized. Throughout the pandemic, there have been 307.9 million reported cases of coronavirus around the world, with over 5.5 million deaths resulting from the illness, as reported by Interfax.
