Azerbaijan Has Managed to Convince Armenia: What Aliyev Discussed in an Interview with a Spanish Newspaper
Azerbaijan has managed to convince Armenia of the inevitability of opening the automobile road (through Armenia to Nakhchivan). This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais.
“Earlier, Armenia was against the opening of the highway, but we were able to convince them that it is inevitable, and they agree. Thus, there is an agreement. We still have some unresolved issues,” Aliyev said, as reported by Telegram channels.
“I believe both countries agree that this should happen, and, by the way, during the trilateral meeting held in Sochi last month, initiated by President Putin, we adopted a declaration that explicitly mentioned the opening of communications. And it will be so. By the way, the airspace has already become active. Now the aircraft of the Azerbaijani airline, which flies from Baku to Nakhchivan, has started passing through the airspace of Armenia,” Aliyev pointed out.
He emphasized that Baku wants to open the borders with Yerevan. “Yes, we want to open the borders. Until now, several negotiations have been held within the framework of the trilateral working group led by the deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia,” he said.
