Opening Communication with Azerbaijan and Border Demarcation are Different Issues for Armenia: Mher Grigoryan
Armenia considers the opening of communication with Azerbaijan and the issue of border demarcation as separate matters. This was stated by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan in an interview with the TASS news agency.
“We are following the statements made by the leaders of the three countries in Sochi, in which we agreed to take steps to enhance the level of stability and security at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, to establish a bilateral commission for the delimitation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and to follow up with border demarcation with the consulting support of the Russian Federation,” he noted. “However, this issue is in no way interconnected with the potential opening of transport communications in the region,” he emphasized.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia also added that within the framework of the trilateral working group of the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, an expert sub-group has been created to address the issues of transportation provisions in the event of border openings. “There has not yet been a discussion on the final regulation of these matters,” he stated.
