Ruble Surges Sharply
On Monday, the ruble has begun to noticeably appreciate against the dollar and euro following a rise in oil prices. This is reported by the "RIA Novosti" agency, citing data from the Moscow stock exchange.
According to calculations, as of 07:06 Moscow time, the American currency decreased by 71 kopecks, reaching 74.9 rubles, while the euro fell by 1.03 rubles (84.47 rubles).
Brent crude oil futures for January also rose by 4.27%, reaching $74.65 per barrel.
On Friday, commodity prices fell by 11-13%, hitting the lowest levels since September. This decline is attributed to the spread of the new "Omicron" variant of the coronavirus, which the WHO has labeled as "concerning." The EU has imposed restrictions on entry from countries where the variant is spreading.
