Mikheil Saakashvili's Health Deteriorating in Prison, Doctor Reports
The health condition of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is on hunger strike in the Rustavi prison, is deteriorating. This was reported by the political figure's doctor, Nikoloz Kibshidze, as reported by Interfax.
The doctor stated that Saakashvili suffers from thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder that affects hemoglobin synthesis. According to him, the former president of Georgia is finding it difficult to walk and speak.
Following reports of Saakashvili's worsening condition, his supporters arrived at the prison and requested on the live broadcast of the opposition channel Mtavari Arkhi to end the hunger strike. The Georgian Penitentiary Service, however, claimed that Saakashvili's health condition is normal.
