Russia Proposes Initiative to Armenia and Azerbaijan, Says Zaytsev
During a press briefing on Thursday, Alexey Zaytsev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, addressed the resolution titled "Humanitarian Consequences of the Conflict Between Azerbaijan and Armenia" adopted at the September PACE session, on which Russia abstained from voting.
"During the discussion of that document, the Russian delegation received requests from both Armenian and Azerbaijani colleagues. Considering Russia's mediating role, our delegation did not participate in the voting on the document, as its provisions have caused controversies among the parties involved," Zaytsev stated.
He added, "We have repeatedly emphasized that the sustainable and long-term solution to the problematic incidents in certain areas of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border is the establishment of a commission on delimitation and subsequent demarcation of the border. The Russian side has developed a proposal for ensuring the launch of the relevant negotiation process, which has been communicated to Baku and Yerevan. We are awaiting feedback from our partners."
