SPORT: 19-Year-Old Weightlifter from Gyumri Becomes European Champion
The European Championships for youth and under-23 weightlifting have kicked off in Rovaniemi, Finland. Armenia is represented by 17 athletes across two age categories, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
From our team, the first to compete was Garnik Cholakyan, a 19-year-old weightlifter in the 55 kg category, who is part of the under-20 national team. The athlete from Gyumri showcased a total lift of 230 kg (100+130) and earned the title of European Champion in his age group.
It is worth noting that Garnik Cholakyan is a student at the Olympic Reserve State Sports College in Gyumri.
