Russian Foreign Ministry on the Possibility of Deploying Russian Border Guards at the Armenian-Azerbaijani Border
Russia cannot deploy border guards at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border due to the lack of international legal agreements and trust between the parties. This was stated today by Alexander Bikantov, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Earlier, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had suggested that Russian border guards’ posts be established along the entire length of the border with Azerbaijan.
“One of the obstacles to the deployment of border guards along the border is the absence of international legal agreements, which has resulted in a deficit of mutual trust between the parties,” said Bikantov during a briefing. According to him, stable peace at the border can only be achieved through the initiation of border delimitation work between Armenia and Azerbaijan and subsequent demarcation.
