Russian-American Relations Have Reached a Dangerous Point of Confrontation: Lavrov
The United States has provoked an unprecedented deterioration in relations with Russia in recent years, but Moscow is determined to resolutely confront Washington's pressure. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting of the Russian diplomatic service's collegium dedicated to Russian-American relations.
According to Lavrov, bilateral relations have reached a dangerous point of confrontation. Furthermore, Russia is subject to systematic pressure that the U.S. is extending to its allies, the minister noted.
“Washington’s line, which grossly violates international law, will continue to encounter steadfast resistance in the context of protecting the legitimate interests of the Russian Federation,” said the Russian foreign minister.
He added that the meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States on June 16 in Geneva opens up certain possibilities for dialogue in several areas. These include strategic stability, cybersecurity, the climate agenda, the Arctic, and support for resolving regional conflicts.
As Lavrov stated, such cooperation can be successful if the principles of mutual respect, equality, and non-interference in internal affairs are observed.
